Revisit all that you learned about 20th-century British history in school with Cathy Newman’s fresh twist on the stories that place women front and centre, instead of in the footnotes – or even omitted altogether.

In this talk, Cathy shares the true, and often overlooked, stories of the many pioneering women who helped transform Britain, such as the aeronautical engineer Beatrice Shilling, without whom the UK probably wouldn’t have won the Battle of Britain. And of others, who faced many hurdles but achieved against the odds, including the spy princess Noor Inayat Khan, Dina St Johnston, founder of Britain’s first software, and Margery Hurst, who founded the first secretarial agency to be floated on the London Stock Exchange.
