Are you frustrated that despite your best efforts, it’s still so hard to reduce or eliminate single-use plastics from your life when many shops, restaurants and cafes still hand out so much of it?

If that sounds familiar, visit Cowcross Street in Islington on Wednesday 5 February to celebrate the launch of the capital’s first Low Plastic Zone by North London Waste Authority (NLWA). Meet the businesses who have committed to reducing single-use plastics and make it easier for their customers to make the right choices - all whilst enjoying a hot drink, live entertainment and plenty of bargains on Cowcross Street throughout the day!

Cowcross Street will be celebrating this key shopping area becoming the first Low Plastic Zone with acoustic music from London band Super Tenants and a range of offers and special discounts from participating local businesses, including half price mocktails at Lazybones, if you show your Low Plastic Zone badge.

Start your day with a free hot drink in Lazybones at Cowcross Yards (don’t forget to bring your reusable cup!) and collect your Low Plastic Zone badge. Badges will be given out on a first come, first served basis and details of the participating businesses will be available on the day.

As part of the event, Chair of North London Waste Authority Councillor Clyde Loakes and Islington Councillor Rowena Champion will be presenting certificates to participating businesses who have successfully, and permanently, reduced the single-use plastic they give to their customers.

Following this launch, key shopping areas within Haringey, Camden, Barnet, Enfield, Hackney and Waltham Forest will follow suit and reach Low Plastic Zone status, so watch this space!
