Pop-Up Exhibition Opening: A Different Way Of Seeing

A new film installation by young artists with autism and a broad spectrum of learning differences, challenging how people like themselves are represented in mainstream media.

Each three-screen video portrait features the artist speaking directly to the camera about their everyday life, flanked by shots of the places and things that inform their identity. Based in Hackney and aged 16 - 25, all of the filmmakers are members of Mouth That Roars, a youth media organisation.

A Different Way of Seeing is part of the UK-wide EXPLORERS Project, celebrating the extraordinary contribution neurodiverse people make to art and culture. #ExplorersProject

Exhibiting artists are Ruth Almodal, Lanre Aregbeshola, Jazmin Francis-Johnson, Abraham Joseph, Clive Kandza-Itsieme, Emmanuel Kwatiah, Seni Oremosu, Yolanda Panbu, Conor Powell, Ike Romans.

Everyone is welcome to our exhibition openings. These events are popular, and we ask visitors to book a free ticket in advance to help manage numbers. You do not have to book a ticket to attend this event.

Both galleries will be open. This is an informal event, you can arrive and leave at any time.

After the launch event, A Different Way of Seeing will be open from 17 - 21 March.

ABOUT MOUTH THAT ROARS

A Different Way of Seeing is in partnership with Mouth That Roars (MTR), a youth media company which was set up with the sole purpose of training young people in film production who wouldn’t ordinarily have access to media resources.

MTR enables young people who are quite often misrepresented a space to be heard, and a medium through which they can voice their thoughts and feelings.
