Tech Will Save Us sell fun do-it-yourself kits that let you try your hand at everything from creating a solar-powered plant (as in a potted plant that lights up with the sunlight) to an analogue synth that makes actual sounds.

There are manuals, additional challenges and activities on their website, and they also have special packs for schools and home educators. Although their kits are marketed at 4 - 11-year-olds, their range has stuff for all ages.
