Don’t miss Cabaret Kings William Ludwig and Dean Austin and The Tango Collective for a celebration of the life and work of composer Astor Piazzolla in the year that would have seen his 100th birthday. Piazzolla’s music is the music of Buenos Aires and resonates with audiences across the world. Piazzolla was the figurehead of nuevo tango, new tango, and ripped tango out the dance halls of Argentina to place it in the concert halls of the world. Music not to dance to, but to inspire, make us dream and take us to faraway places full of longing and passion.
We explore some of Piazzolla’s most beautiful music, from instrumental masterpieces to songs, with a brief introduction into the life and legacy of this iconic composer. His music to this day influences classical and cabaret performers across the globe and is as moving, innovative and profound as it was when it was composed. Piazzolla was a true genius, an innovator and trailblazer. The poetry of the songs is the poetry of our times – the loneliness of the big city, the dark soul of tango, the missed and elusive. The songs will be performed in English and Spanish.
