Family Natural Inks & Dyes (online)

Join this online family workshop and learn how to make your own inks from vegetables and spices, which you can use to make paintings and drawings at home.
This introductory workshop with artist Nikki Gardham will guide you through the process of brewing your own natural inks and dyes using regular household and recycled materials. Nikki will show you how to create a unique batch of ‘live’ ink that evolves in colour and richness over time. In the spirit of DIY culture, get thrifty and creative with items around your home, using spices, vegetables, and basic kitchen tools. Using your own inks, Nikki will show you how to create botanical designs inspired by our Unearthed: Photography’s Roots exhibition.

Your family will come away with a set of inks in primary colours and recipes for how to make more, as well as a series of nature-inspired artworks.

This activity is aimed at families with 7–12-year-olds but siblings of other ages are welcome to join.
