A concert exploring the tumultuous Tudor times when Queen Elizabeth I’s reign was coming to an end. Catholics and Protestants were secretively scheming to advance successors of their credence. Noblemen, playwrights, composers and poets contributed subversions according to their skills – swords, sharp words, treacherous tones and viscous verse - some of which we’ll bring to life in the safe knowledge that the Tower is now mainly a tourist attraction. Works by Byrd, East, Tallis, Weelkes, Wilbye and Kerry Andrew.
Byrd: Vigilate
Byrd: O Lord, make thy servant Elizabeth our Queen
Byrd: Quis est homo
Byrd: Laudibus in sanctis
East: Hence stars too dim of light

Tallis: Salvator mundi
Tallis: In jejunio et fletu
