WSO is delighted to welcome soloist Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux to play Mendelssohn's violin concerto, preceeded by Sibelius' Finlandia (a patriotic protest against Russian domination and censorship), as part of our Summer Prom concert.

The second half of the concert opens with the Overture to The Wreckers by Ethel Smyth which is to be performed at The BBC Proms this Summer; a production is also being staged at the Glyndebourne Opera festival in a new production. The highlight of the second half will be Elgar's Enigma Variations (described as a musical tribute to his friends and colleagues), followed by some classic patriotic works known from The Last Night of The Proms.

SIBELIUS • Finlandia, Op. 26
MENDELSSOHN • Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64
-- Interval --
ETHEL SMYTH • Overture to The Wreckers
ELGAR • Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 36, "Enigma"
WALTON • Crown Imperial
ELGAR • Pomp and Circumstance, Op. 39, No. 1

Conductor: Ed Whitehead
Soloist: Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux

Pimms & Lemonade, as well as soft drinks, will be available for purchase before the concert and during the interval. Feel free to dress in your summer flair if you prefer and be sure to bring a little flag for 'Land of Hope and Glory' at the end of the concert!

Optional Pre-Concert lecture at 6:15 p.m. at the church hall to be given by conductor for the evening Ed Whitehead titled 'Ethel Smyth: The Hidden Musical Genius of the 20th Century' to enhance the performance - free to ticket holders.

Additional tickets may be purchased via our website wimso.org.uk.
