On Saturday 11 June, the Francis Crick Institute in King’s Cross is opening its doors for Discovery Day, a chance for families to get hands-on with exciting experiments and games delivered by scientists.
Returning for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Discovery Day is an opportunity for families to visit the Crick, a world-class research institute where over 1,500 scientists work to better understand human health and disease.
Open from 10am to 4pm, there will be lots of awesome activities, chances to chat with inspiring scientists and a series of explosive science shows from presenter Dan Plane. The event is free and there is no need to book in advance.
Families can try a range of activities including:
• Create your own fake poo, and learn about all of the bugs that live in your tummy.
• Transform everyday fruit into an orchestra and play your favourite tunes.
• Take the sniff challenge to find out if you’re a super-smeller and discover how the brain helps us decipher different smells.
• Investigate the different DNA of our ancestors and discover how humans have changed over time. Make your own DNA bracelet to take home.
• Find out how scientists grow cells in the lab and follow the recipe to make a stem cell potion.
• You’ll also be able to catch activities from the local community – including Citrus Saturdays lemonade, smoothie bikes, hoola hoop activities, face painting and more
