Get ready for 12 days of intoxicating and exhilarating sights and sounds as King’s Cross Summer Sounds, the much-loved annual free music festival formerly known as Cubitt Sessions, will return to King’s Cross from 10 August to 21 August. This year’s theme, Connected Communities, embraces the local cultural diversity of King’s Cross with enthralling and accessible performances from both local and global artists at Coals Drop Yard. The festival kicks off on Wednesday 10 August with the world’s most celebrated Flamenco composer and guitarist, Paco Peña and Friends, who has performed everywhere from Ronnie Scott’s to the Royal Albert Hall. With live concerts every evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and from 1pm to 6pm on ‘Family Sundays’, King’s Cross Summer Sounds is London’s most inclusive free music festival. Other festival highlights include folk quartet, Tacla, singing and playing traditional Welsh music in a unique gypsy jazz style; an Evening of Songs from the Shows featuring Danial Boys and guests; the alternative pop duo APRE with their big infectious sounds and uplifting melodies, and much more. The finale of the festival, driven by the power of the human voice, is a celebration of the community choir and its unifying ability to represent cultural identities, featuring the world-famous London Community Gospel Choir. World-renowned centre for contemporary dance, education and performance The Place will present Future Cargo, a sci-fi dance show by acclaimed performance duo Requardt & Rosenberg. Future Cargo is an enigmatic dance work in a 40-foot haulage truck, delicately delivering a deeply intimate experience within a large-scale dance spectacle. The only paid-for, ticketed event during King’s Cross Summer Sounds will take place on Wednesday 10 to Saturday 13 August and Thursday 18 to Saturday 20 August.
