EMERGENCE MAGAZINE PRESENTS SHIFTING LANDSCAPES AN IMMERSIVE EXHIBITION 1 - 10 December, 2023
Shifting Landscapes an exciting new immersive exhibition is set to run at the incredible multi-storey exhibition space Bargehouse Oxo Tower Wharf on London’s South Bank from 1-10 December 2023.
Featuring nine international artists Shifting Landscapes contemplates our changing Earth during the current moment of loss possibility and transformation containing sensory installations soundscapes large-scale photographic works film and more. Bringing to life Emergence Magazine’s editorial exploration of the theme of shifting landscapes the exhibition is curated by Emmy and Peabody award-nominated filmmaker / composer and Emergence Magazine founder Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee. The exhibition brings viewers an experience of the changing Arctic poisoned rivers a threatened rainforest in the Amazon a lost world built on dredged sand and the shifting sounds of the Earth.
The Nightingale’s Song (Film) directed by Adam Loften and Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee - Nightingales have coexisted with humans for a million years and been a consistent wellspring of intrigue and creative inspiration. However with their breeding habitats shrinking they may disappear from England within our lifetimes. In this film Mercury Prize-nominated folk singer Sam Lee draws on an ancient lineage of oral storytelling as he joins this elusive bird in mutual song. The film will be presented alongside an ambisonic nightingale sound experience The Last Nightingales from Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee. Sam and Emmanuel are available for interview and comment.
Breathing with the Forest by Marshmallow Laser Feast (PREMIERE) - In a rare opportunity to see new work from UK experiential art collective Marshmallow Laser Feast Shifting Landscapes will premiere the collective’s new large-scale video and audio installation Breathing with the Forest. Exploring the hidden pathways of the Amazon rainforest via digitized projections of natural underground networks viewers participate through a breath-based open-eyed meditation that connects them to the relationships that exist with the forest ecosystem. Barney Steel Creative Director of Marshmallow Laser Feast is available for interview.
Lost World film directed by Kalyanee Mam photos by Kalyanee Mam and Mona Simon (PREMIERE) - Playing throughout the exhibition alongside featured photography captured during the making of the film Sundance award-winning director Kalyanee Mam’s UK premiere of Lost World is a personal and arresting examination of the destruction of mangrove forests in Koh Sralau Cambodia and the impact this has had on the lives of Cambodian families. Kalyanee is available for interview and we can provide photographs and stills from the film upon request.
A programme of free weekend talks and events will run alongside the exhibition with guests including biologist and bestselling author Merlin Sheldrake and Booker Prize–winning novelist Ben Okri.
