Having qualified for the Oscars and BAFTAs 2024, after winning 42 awards at more than 70 festivals worldwide, proudly Brixton-based short film “The Stupid Boy” is returning to its birthplace for a night that will celebrate Brixton’s creativity and spirit – all in aid of the charity Choose Love. Phil Dunn’s “The Stupid Boy” follows a neurodivergent teen in Brixton, south London who comes face-to-face with a white supremacist, in an intensely moving finale in Brixton Village – an encounter where choosing love would, for most of us, not be an option.

The evening begins with a special screening of the film at Brixton’s Ritzy Picturehouse Cinema followed by a Q&A with director, cast and crew. There’ll also be entertainment including live music and spoken word from Brixton Chamber Orchestra and Brixton Youth Theatre. This will be followed by an afterparty at Lost In Brixton, headlined by an exclusive DJ Set by Andy Cato of Groove Armada and Spooky Cash-Cash. Tickets for screening+party includes complementary food and drinks courtesy of local Brixton businesses including Brixton Brewery, Brixton Gin, Market Row Rum, The Clink Bakery at HMP Brixton, Franco Manca, Wildfarmed, Oowee Vegan. All profits will go to Choose Love, a pioneering new movement in humanitarian aid who’ve raised millions to support refugees and created a movement of people putting love into action around the world. This event will specifically support their “Civilians Must Not Be A Target” Humanitarian Appeal.
