Every year Trafalgar Square sprouts a wonderfully large Christmas Tree - a gift each year from the people of Norway as a thank you for support and friendship during World War Two - and this is a focus of the Christmas season in central London. Always a superb, giant pine tree, the Christmas Tree in Trafalgar Square sports a really wonderful Christmas light display.

Once the lights on the Christmas Tree are turned on they remain on from midday until midnight every day throughout the Christmas season. The ceremony of turning on the lights is preceded by a carol service at St Martin-in-the-Fields. The tree itself remains there, of course, until Twelfth Night - 6th January 2020.

The enormous tree is a popular seasonal tourist attraction, particularly in the fortnight leading up to Christmas, when each evening from 9th December to 24th December 2019 (except 14th and 22nd December), a different choir gathers there to sing carols and raise money for a range of voluntary or charitable organisations.
