Open City Docs Fest is London’s biggest documentary festival, hosting a diverse programme of live cinema events and screenings of more than 120 films from around the world. The four-day Summer festival celebrates the best of documentary film in central London and includes screenings, premieres, live events, music, filmmakers in discussion, and food.

Open City Docs Fest has films that explore the range of modern life from the challenges of urban living, to the thrills of science, the subversion of art and the restorative beauty of music. For 2012, strands include Science Frictions, Protest Works, Sound and Music, Still Lives, Artists’ Documentary, The Image of the Engineer, The City, World Visions and there will be a showcase of the winners of a nationwide, online film-making competition, MyStreet.

The festival opens with a special London gala preview of Matthew Akers’ "Marina Abramović The Artist is Present".

The festival takes place across venues in and around central London and across University College London's (UCL) WC1 campus, opening up a hidden part of the city to Londoners and international visitors. The central hub will be the Festival Cinema Tent in Torrington Square, plus adapted UCL lecture theatres, and offsite screenings/events in partner venues including the Cine Lumiere and Riverside Studios.
