The Cork Street Open Exhibition is the UK's fastest growing independent open exhibition filling two large galleries in the heart of Mayfair, in London's art dealing centre.

Every summer since 2008, established and emerging artists from the UK and around the world have featured in the annual Cork Street Open Exhibitions held in Mayfair to raise the profile of contemporary artists and benefit a selected children’s charity.

The Cork Street Open Exhibition was inspired by the Big Issue’s tributes to Anita Roddick in late 2007, and by an article written by founder and then editor John Bird, in which he discussed his enthusiasm and appreciation for contemporary art, and his love of the galleries in Cork Street.

The Annual Exhibition, in which thousands of artists compete for substantial prizes, fills two galleries in London’s art-dealing centre. After a two-stage, juried selection process the final selection of approximately 200 works is comprised of paintings, original prints, photographs, sculpture, prints and graphic art and is hung in salon style over an eight day period. Cash and materials prizes are awarded by the judges in a number of categories.

The 2012 selection comittee, headed by Louis Singh from Beaux Arts London, also includes Bridget Coaker from Troika Editions, famed art critic, author and historian Edward Lucie Smith, and Sergei Reviakin, co-author of The International Art Market Guide to Collectors and Investors a founding member of the London Collectors Club.

The 2012 charity is Centrepoint, the leading charity for young homeless people living in the UK, aged 16-25. Centrepoint provides emergency shelter, short and long stay hostels, as well as support in health, care and education for the young and homeless.

The charity also provides help for young, single parents, young ex-offenders and care leavers. Not only does the charity provide a designated mental health team, but also specialist support in helping young people back into education, or into employment, by training them in life skills.

Tickets can be purchased via the website for the Private View fundraiser for Centrepoint taking place August 22nd.
The Cork Street Open Exhibition runs 23-31 August 2012 at 28 Cork Street, London W1S 3NG.
