Ironmonger Row Baths

I recently spent a great afternoon at the Turkish baths. Pay at the front desk, then head down into the baths. Undress, and use the lockers provided to store your clothes. It was a men's only day, so there were no problems stripping off because just about everyone was completely naked, sitting on towels. Have a quick shower, then head into the very hot steam room for as long as it's comfortable. Then use the icy plunge pool for an invigorating cooldown. Then venture into the three hot rooms of differing temperature. Take a bottle of water in with you if you're thirsty. Then back to the plunge pool, then back to the relaxation area, stretch out and doze in one of the chairs provided. Repeat as required for three hours. Massages and rubdowns, refreshments etc. are available on request. Chat is kept down to a minimum. The fact that everyone there is totally non-judgmental and unself-conscious about the communal nudity is what makes the baths so wonderfully relaxing. Men only days are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Women only days are Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Mixed on Monday – swimwear compulsory.
