Although strictly speaking, Kingsland as an area no longer exists, the name remains on the main thoroughfares of Dalston (Kingsland Road, Kingsland High Street) as well as the Dalston Kingsland train station and the humble Kingsland Shopping Centre. It’s hard to believe that woodland once covered the area before the village of Kingsland was formed, notable for having a leper hospital and for being the one time home of Samuel Pepys. It was when the railway arrived in the 19th century with a station called Dalston Junction that the northernmost area would start to become known as Dalston, while the south western tip of old Kingsland is now part of De Beauvoir Town.
