Just returned from another very pleasant evening at Appennino. Service efficient and the food really very good; full and bustling at 21h00 in the City. Reasonable prices and a warm welcome. Plenty of reason to go again.

I arrived, I sat, I waited for an hour during which I got some bread & wine then a starter arrived. I ate it and waited another hour for the main course. I left prior to it arriving.
I was very dissapointed with the service, it wasn't particularly busy. There was a lack of organisation, and if you have an open kitchen, which they do, then you would expect the chefs to look tidy which they didn't. I can't comment on the food but the starter was no more than average at best.

Service is just too rude. Food is ok but hostile attitude made me want to leave as soon as possible.

went to this restuarant, as we couldn't find anywhere else and it was very close to our hotel. i have to say that the food was excellent, they found us a table straight away, this is proper italian cooking, i had the linguine luganaga and my girlfriend had a piccante pizza, it was gorgeaus, didn't take long to wait for the food. everything tasted so fresh. the staff were very friendly and helpful. i would eat there everday if i could. we had two mains and two desserts and 4 alcholic drinks and the bill came to £52 which was inlcuding the 12% tip, but we left a tip anyway as we felt that they deserved it.

Clearly a lot of people expecting this place to be like Strada or Carluccio´s...
Yes, they may round up the bill, yes, they might not be your cheesy regular smiling staff, but a bit more brusk and "on we go" attitude, but guess what.... THAT IS LA BELLA ITALIA for you!!

The reviews, regardless of how much they hate to admit it, simply love the place and so do I and all my colleagues. Service is however something the italians need to learn some day....

The service is nothing special and the food is not any close to Italian average standards. I ate spaghetti with clams and mussels but they were as overcooked as it never happened to me. Furthermore, 2/3 of the clams were just empty shells, usual old trick….. Items on the menu and wine list were actually not available. It think this restaurant is well overpriced and not worth a visit.

ABSOLUTELY YUMMY.JUST REMEMBERING LAST NITES MEAL.WE HAD THE WAITERS RECOMMENDATION OF "PORCHETTA WITH REDCURRANT CHUTNEY AND CARTA DI MUSICA" THE BEST THING IVE TASTED IN AGES.THE TABLES ARE QUITE CLOSE AND CRAMMED TOGETHER,BUT U KNOW, MAYBE THAT JUST ADDS TO THE HEARTINESS OF THE PLACE.OH ..I ALSO HAD A GREAT TUSCAN WINE CALLED MORELLINO DI SCANSANO,WHICH IVE HAD BEFORE AND WAS GREAT.

the food is ok but they take extremely long when serving you. i went there at lunch time with 3 friends. we had booked a table and requested that we pre order because we only had an hour but they said they didnt do that. once we ordered they TOOK 50 MINS to bring our food. we ended up walking out as they wasted our time.they manager didnt make any attempts to apologise and i felt it was ver un professional.

Food is decent, but there are far better places in the area. The waitstaff are dismissive and very rude, especially of ethnic minority diners. Service is very slow for the people who don't fit the mold of the faux-mediterranean-beautiful-people coterie they seem to want to build. City Basil is a far better alternative, as are the simpler unpretentious places in Spitalfields Market. The food is ok, a bit on the greasy side (probably fell out of the staff hair).

I am glad that I am not the only person writing about problems with their bills. I have had to check my bill three times as they have either added it up wrong or completely overcharged on my bill. One time this amounted to over £11 difference. I do find also that once you say you don't require any more, coffee, alchohol etc, the bill is left with you and they keep coming back to see if you have paid it. The place seems friendly enough and the food is excellent but I think that the greed of the place spoils it somewhat. I also think that with a 12% service charge, you should not have to leave a tip, although they always seem to look for one...

Just had a really nice dinner at Osteria Appennino. Food was beautiful. Got garlic pizza bread and bruschetta Pomodoro to share as starters and asked for the main to be delayed ´cause we were waiting for a friend. Staff was really accomodating. Then we ordered risotto gamberoni, penne arrabiatta, tortellini filled with spinach and ricotta in some gorgeous sauce and spaguetti carbonara. But the best bit was dessert. We ordered one of each and couldn´t find a winner. But the runner-ups were the lemon sorbet and the cheese cake. Yummy!! All in all a wonderful experience. We spent almost 4 hours there enjoying a chat and a few bottles of refreshing pinot rosé. Definitely a place to go back to.

The food is good, but it is difficult to get past the rude staff when you try to book. Best to go at an odd time and hope the waitstaff is adequate. Otherwise, eat elsewhere, which is a shame because the food is actually good.

Having read the review regarding checking the bill, my colleagues and i made a point of doing this too. To our utter disgust, we discovered that they had indeed rounded up our bill to the next nearest pound, also rounding our 2 bottles of wine to 3!!! Upon quering this, our waitress left the table for 10 minutes and altered the bill. Through requested a corrected bill, we made a saving of £30. They were not interested in apologising for their constant mistakes, eg incorrect starters, that we had to wait 45 minutes for, cold soup, and incorrect bill. To top it off, they were shocked when we refused to pay the tip!!! It was a shame, because the food was really nice.

Do remember your prices on the menu as the staff obviously have forgotten it once they write your bill. Only 1 item wasn't hiked up by 20-90p (whole pounds were left along, only pence altered). Total rounded up and £4 service charge added, but £41 + £4 doesn't add to grand total of £46. A total "tip" they tried to extract was i.r.o. £8 by this method. Good food - shame about their greediness.

I have been here a number of times in the evening recently and the staff are fast but very miserable! They sat us near a slope by a door which was really uncomfortable and no elbow room. The food is great and reasonably priced but you do feel a bit rushed and I wish the staff would SMILE! When you call to make a reservation they can be a little unhelpful as well - worth a visit but bear these comments in mind!

I went here for lunch with colleagues, 9 in total. The service was speedy (helpful when you are stretching your lunch hour) and the staff were accommodating for two of our party who turned up late, whizzing their food out in record time.
I had the house specialty pizza, very nice indeed, thin crust and well cooked. My friend had the special, rabbit with polenta, and was impressed that she could taste real stock in the casserole.
We're looking forward to returning for the next celebration, and this time I'll be having the tartufo for dessert.

Went for lunch on Friday 10th Sept - Really busy restuarant with not much elbow room at all!
The food was great - I had a chicken kebab on a bed of rocket with roated peppers in a sort of chilli and balsamic dressing - was the biggest kebab I've ever seen and tasted wonderful! Washed this down with a bottle of pinot grigio- didnt sample any starters or desserts as it did take some time for food to come up - will be going back for those!
