I like the whole sitting in someone's front room and your gran's crockery vibe. It make for an authentic and homeley curry experience.

However, the poppadums were just as stale as the surroundings and tasted like they were cooked from the night before. And at £2.40 for 2 poppadums, they aren't cheap.

The cobra was of good quality and were priced at £4.50 for a pint which I would also say is a little on the expensive side.

For mains we had lamb korai and chicken tikka masala with rice and naans. The mains were tasty and the naans nice and soft.

Overall for 3 mains, 2 rice, 2 naans, 2 popadums and 3 beers, we paid £46. If I'm honest I probably wouldn't suggest going there again, but at the same time I wouldn't actively avoid it if someone was having a do there.

I last visited the Top Curry Centre when I lived in Pimlico in 1984, so driven purely by nostalgia & parrying all discouraging reviews, I returned during a recent trip to London. (That & the restaurant’s irresistible situation, next door to a very nice pub on a freezing January night) I was charmed to rediscover décor which did not appear to have been changed since my twenties – a theme continuing on into the gents’ loo, which clearly had been installed in the twenties. (eg; The hand drying facility was a simple frayed bath towel abandoned over a wooden pole. I could almost hear the bacteria organise whilst I stood with my defences & my flies down at the condemned urinal). Cultural Indian music played constantly during our visit; which I like. Leaving a radio channel running in any eatery seems such a cop-out. The two waiters who attended our table were pleasant & efficient, & between them, my wife & I & the five other diners dotted about this living room venue, we managed to make the place look pretty full. Our food came promptly & was hot & fresh & tasty, but the portions were quite small…Understandably perhaps, in order they could fit into such cramped circumstances.
After very much enjoying our meal of two starters, two main, a selection of rice, sundries & accompaniments,& with a bottle of house white, our bill was only ₤41 – which even included that abhorrent 10% service charge fashionably added to ones bill. Would I return again?... Absolutely, however; next morning I was farting so badly our hotel room smoke alarm went off twice. HONEST !! (Although that may have been an inherent failure… with the alarm I mean)
