Volleyball at The Mall is a sell-out!

The All In London Blog

Not a huge surprise maybe, but Olympics fever has hit London a year before the Games begin, with a series of test events selling out... particularly when it comes to Women's Beach Volleyball.

All tickets have sold out for international trials of beach volleyball (Aug 9 - 14) after Horse Guards Parade took delivery of 2,274 tonnes of sand for the creation of a beach at the bottom of The Mall.

Pulses and camera shutters were set racing at a recent practice and photo call at the site.

The Team GB beach volleyball girls are cashing in on fans who photograph their bottoms in their skimpy bikinis.

Zara Dampney, 24, and Shauna Mullin, 26, will get paid for advertising on their rears in the Olympics test event.

With the advertiser saying: “We’ve put them on the place likely to get photographed most.”

In addition, basketball and BMX racing in the Olympic Park have also sold out as spectators rush to catch a first glimpse of the venues and potential medal winners.

Crowds of about 50,000 watched the free triathlon test events in Hyde Park at the weekend and 100,000 are expected this Sunday for a 140km cycling road race. Some of the world's best cyclists, including Tour de France green jersey winner Mark Cavendish, will race from The Mall to Boxhill in Surrey and back via Putney, Richmond and Kingston.

Tickets for more test events will go on sale this year, with track cycling at the velodrome and diving at the aquatics centre, both next February, expected to attract big demand.

The gymnastics facilities will be tested in January, synchronised swimming in April and in May there will be hockey, water polo, athletics and wheelchair tennis. Tickets cost from £5 to £35.
