In case you hadn't realised, I have a bit of a thing for handbags; for my daily duties I generally need a substantial roomy tote I can fit all my rubbish in. It really does need to be seriously roomy, which is why I was so pleased to recently discover London-based Clare Allen and her perfectly proportioned Shopper.
Established in 2007, Clare's brand specialises in limited edition handbags and was born from a demand for individuality. Each bag is handmade in London from the most buttery soft nappa leather you could imagine, with a fabulous lining from a limited edition fabric. With each bag a one-off, you will never see another carrying the same one.
But that's not the best part. All of Clare's bags are totally reversible. With an invisible magnetic fastening and metal claw feet both inside and out, the bags can be turned inside out to show the gorgeous linings, perfect for turning a day to day bag into a summery beach tote. As if that wasn't enough, the piece de resistance comes in the form of interchangeable handles. Far removed from the naff interchangeable styles of old, the sleek handles are handmade in Somerset and available in long or short lengths in a host of colours to co-ordinate with the classic tones of the bags or the wonderful array of lining fabrics. A simple black leather tote can be transformed with the addition of a shorter patent strap for evening, or a long pink one to match the lining for summer - utter genius.
