The omnipresent trend for dip-dyed hair doesn't seem to be going anywhere. One look at the likes of Drew Barrymore, Alexa Chung or Rachel Bilson confirms that over a year after this look first started trickling into our consciousness, it really is here to stay. I'm something of a hair chameleon - I've been dyeing my hair since I first discovered Sun-In aged 13 - and having been everything from Barbie blonde to nearly-black in my time I was intrigued to see if the Ombre technique I'd heard such amazing things about could add a little bit of the celeb-look to my currently dull and lacklustre locks...
So one Friday back in January I trotted off to the legendary Neville Hair and Beauty in Belgravia. A favoured salon of many a famous face, not to mention the glamorously groomed ladies of Chelsea, Neville's is a five story haven of hair and beauty offering not just cut and colour services but hair treatments, massage, facials, reflexology, make-up and anti-aging treatments, amongst others.
I booked in with the salon's queen of colour, Seniz and the day I arrived the salon was packed to the rafters with every chair occupied - surely a good sign. The Ombre technique was created by LA-based Celebrity Colourist, Anja Burton for her celebrity clients who wanted a year-round sunkissed looked. She then taught the exclusive method to Neville's colourists herself, a subtle graduation of dark roots to light ends. Hair was segmented, then tiny sections backcombed (to help with blending in the colour) before the colour was applied. After enjoying a delicious freshly-made salmon and cream cheese bagel from the salon's kitchen, I was rinsed, conditioned and had a fantastically bouncy blow dry. Eight weeks later and with a little more natural regrowth the results still look amazing, the kind of grown-out, sunkissed look I always yearn to achieve but never really have the patience to wait for!
Ombre colour from £280. Visit www.nevillehairandbeauty.net or call the salon on 020 7235 3654.
