Get Wigged Up To Support Cancer Charity On Wig Wednesday

The All In London Blog

A host of Britain’s best known and most well-loved celebrities have donned wigs and joined forces to feature in ‘Wig Wednesday’, a fundraising campaign for CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people.

The individual portraits, which were captured by world renowned photographer Rankin, include household names such as award-winning actress Celia Imrie, former EastEnders and celebrity Big Brother star, Natalie Cassidy, British actor, Robert Glenister and TOWIE’s Frankie Essex amongst its famous faces. The charity is urging the public to wear a wig on ‘Wig Wednesday’, 23 May and make a donation to help CLIC Sargent reduce the impact of childhood cancer.

It is hoped that millions of people across the UK will take part in the fun and ‘get wiggy with it’ for the day. Every pound raised will help CLIC Sargent offer vital emotional, practical and financial support to young cancer patients and their families. Further celebrity support for the campaign comes from ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’s’, Jessica Jane Clements and socialite, Tara Palmer Tomkinson.

Commenting on the launch of the ‘Wig Wednesday’ campaign, Natalie Cassidy said, “I’ve had so much fun playing around with my look for Wig Wednesday and, as a mum, the fact that it’s to help children and young people in the UK with cancer makes it even more worthwhile. I love the idea behind the campaign– I know my friends would love to don a cool new look for the day and if we can raise money for CLIC Sargent at the same time then even better.”

CLIC Sargent’s National Events Manager, Katie Turton said: “Wig Wednesday is a great opportunity for businesses, communities, universities and schools to have fun whilst raising money for charity. Whether you’re going it alone or taking part with friends, family or colleagues, by simply changing your hair you can help CLIC Sargent change lives for children and young people with cancer.”

CLIC Sargent will provide all the help, advice and materials people need to make their event a success, from posters and banners to collection tins and sponsor forms. To find out more call 0845 1212 492or visit www.clicsargent.org.uk/wigwednesday
