Incredible range of essential dog products at Animal Fair in High Street Kensington

Dogs in London - The London Dog Blog

Billed as “London’s leading pet store” I thought I’d take a peek to see what doggy products were available and I think I certainly found the biggest stockist here.

Every conceivable product you might need for your dog is crammed onto shelves – and available in most brands – sturdy pet carriers, chews, treats, toys, fluffies, food (James Wellbeloved, Royal Canin, Lily’s and Pet Bakery pots of bones), grooming products, flea and worm treatments, shampoos and conditioners, toothpaste, vitamins and supplements, clean up products, repellents, bowls and a good selection of collars, harnesses and leads (I particularly liked the reflective variety which help visibility in these dark winter mornings and the rope and giraffe designs). The window display was full of pet Christmas stockings so that your dog need not feel left out on Christmas morning.

And I found an entire room full of dog beds – everything from the solid plastic variety through to cord, fleece and fluffy versions and even the ubiquitous Union Flag cushions that everyone else seems to stock. They were mostly in subdued and sensible country colours – greens, browns and beiges – but there were some in blue.

Almost obscured by a giant rabbit hutch I found a display of dog bag carriers – in a variety of materials, designs and colours – and all at reasonable prices. I particularly liked a dog carrier that you could use either as a back pack or as a wheelie.

They had just wheeled out a rack of dog coats as the cold weather had started. The top pole contained items for small dogs and the lower you went, the larger the dog coats become. Choosing would be difficult as I don’t think I saw two designs the same. An incredible choice of sensible coats to keep your canine friend warm and dry.

There are a host of products for other pets – and an entire aquatic section (lots of soothing water burbles) at the rear and even some livestock (bunnys and budgies, hamsters and paraquets). These are watched over by a magnificent Scarlet Macaw with a sound track provided by live zebra and other finches. So this is either entertainment for your small people or an attraction for your dog.

This is a family run business, a member of the Pet Care Traders Association, with grooming facilities and a partnership to provide doggy day care/boarding. And it was good to meet staff who really know their stuff – one is even a zoologist. And I took note of a window warning sign about the dangers of the artificial sweetener Xylitol for dogs.

http://www.animal-fair.co.uk/single.htm?ipg=8252 It’s open every day until 6pm except Sunday when it closes at 5pm.
