Students from 17 different UK universities are taking to the streets of London for the next 2 days to raise funds for Meningitis Research Foundation.

Students have descend on the capital, targeting tube and mainline stations in central London for a period of two days (Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th March) with the aim trying to raise over £30,000 for Meningitis Research Foundation.

Meningitis and septicaemia are life threatening diseases that can kill in hours, or leave survivors with potentially devastating after effects sometimes as severe as brain damage, amputations and epilepsy. The diseases can affect anyone of any age, but babies, young children, teenagers and young adults are most at risk.

MRF’s ‘London Loot’ will bring together over 120 Rag members from universities in Loughborough, Warwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Brighton, Surrey, Sheffield, Kent, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Imperial College London, London School of Economics, Cardiff, Queens Belfast, Southampton, Liverpool and Nottingham.

“London Loot is a big fundraising challenge for the students,” said Susie Bailey, Community Fundraising Officer, “Collecting £30,000 in spare change is hard work but the energy and enthusiasm of everyone involved really makes the whole experience memorable and fun whilst also raising money for research into meningitis and septicaemia. We hope the commuters of London will be generous and dig deep. ”

Collections will take place on March 27th in Train stations and Tubes on March 28th in the City of London: people will be able to follow the progress here: www.facebook.com/LondonLoot
