This Sunday, fancy a cycle?

Capital of Sport

We've signed up to the Orchid Cycle 70-mile London (well, Crystal Palace) to Hastings ride on Sunday. I've not built up the mileage this winter due to the shocking weather and many, many other reasons. There's no time to squeeze in some panic training* as I'm still working out how exactly to get to Crystal Palace for 8am on a Sunday morning.

Talking of transport, TfL did a great job of distracting the insatiable railway engineers last Sunday, meaning that the tired marathon runners could get a ride home. I know this because my train was packed with grumpy, cranky, irritable runners in bin bags and sweaty leggings, literally fighting for seats... The sharp elbow-jabs still work even though the legs are giving way.

Sunday's ride is somewhat smaller than the London Marathon, so I hope we won't see a similar scene on the way home from Hastings. If you want to get involved, head to
www.bike-events.com/Ride.aspx?id=360.
The entry cost of £18.50 covers the ride organisation, and donations over and above this go to Orchid: Fighting Male Cancer.

Don't expect to see Chris Hoy, darling of London 2012, hitting the streets: he's retired. What's London designer Paul Smith to say on the subject?

*panic training doesn't work.
