I've said it before and I shall say it again; one of the things I love about writing this page is being able to bring you news of new, up and coming, little known or off the beaten track salons and businesses that just need to be discovered. Alas, this post is just that.
Whilst recently pondering where to frequent for a massage that differs from the standard haunts, I was introduced to a new discovery; Serenity Therapeutic Massage in north London. Situated on the main road a few minutes walk from Totteridge & Whetstone tube (at the top of the Northern Line), if you live anywhere near the neighbourhood add it to your speed dial. Now.
Whether you're in the market for a sports massage post-marathon, recovering from an injury, or just in need of a damn good unwind from the stresses and strains of the city, Serenity has a treatment tailored to suit your needs. They say the best things come in small packages, and though they may not have treatment room after treatment room with a menu as long as your arm as some of London's more gargantuan spas may boast, Serenity does its thing to perfection.
I met Sarah, the enthusiastic owner, who described with passion the business that is undoubtedly her baby. A small group of massage therapists are hand-picked to deliver the best experience. Massages available include deep tissue, sports, traditional Thai and Swedish, aromatherapy, reflexology and hot stone, and your treatment can be personalised to include elements of several of the above to create a unique experience tailored completely to your needs. Serenity also offers a range of waxing and threading treatments, as well as Elemis facials and a range of Elemis products (good to know if you don't fancy the trek to John Lewis...).
I visited one Sunday afternoon after a particularly manic week, craving a relaxing experience to soothe away my stresses. Predictably enough I fell asleep almost instantly (the sign of success; me staying awake during a massage, ever, is highly unlikely) as my therapist worked her magic on a particularly vicious knot in my shoulder, before moving on to a fabulously reviving neck and head massage. I loved every second of it. With prices starting at £28 for a 30 minute massage it's most certainly going to keep it's place in my Little Black Book of London!
