Since we've been promised a few weeks of temperate weather, here's three places to row a boat in London. You don't have to BYOB (bring your own boat) - simply gather your friends, book it and turn up!
1. Richmond.
Hire a historic wooden rowing boat for just a few pounds per person (depending on how long you hire the boat for). The boats are roomy so feel free to take a picnic, or stop for lunch at one of the waterfront pubs upriver. You're above the lock and not on the tidal stretch, so the water is relatively calm.

2. Hyde Park.
The Serpentine was created for a queen, which may partly explain why rowing with a top hat, monocle, fan or parasol feels right on this lake. Prices start from £10 per person for a 30-minute spin.

3. Regent's Canal
Canoes and kayaks can be rented from The Drunken Monkey pub in Mile End on Wednesdays; booking is advised. At all other times, contact Moo Canoes directly via their website, moocanoes.com. The canal stretches from Camden Lock to Little Venice (and beyond) via London Zoo and Broadway Market, so there's plenty to see en route. Not strictly rowing, but almost as much fun!
