Penhaligon's Iris Prima - The Scent of the Ballet

Love London

The latest olfactory offering from the purveyors of England's finest fragrances, Penhalingon's, is most certainly one that will be taking pride of place on my dressing table.

Iris Prima is a unique collaborative effort between Penhaligon's and the English National Ballet, using master perfumer Alberto Morillas as choreographer to create an incredible scent that absolutely captures the scent of the ballet.

Amazingly, the fragrance transports you totally to the theatre; one scent and the mind is drawn to sweaty rehearsal rooms, old wooden floors, delicate talcum powder, worn leather and dusty old silk costumes. The ingredients blend seamlessly into a delicate dance so perfect one wonders how it was ever created,

The scent opens with bergamot, followed by green amber and pink pepper before iris absolute takes centre stage. Jasmine sambac, hedione and paridisione make way to an intimate, musky base of leather, vetiver, sandalwood, vanilla and benzoin to create a truly melancholic scent.

Granted exclusive access to English National Ballet dancers Nathan Young and Lauretta Summerscales, as well as rehearsals and hushed glimpses from theatre wings; Alberto has captured every aspect of this remarkable artistic world in the iconic Penhaligon’s bottle.
