The perfect excuse to become ladies that lunch has arrived, with the news that celebrated fashion illustrator David Downton has joined forces with Mayfair restaurant 34, sister restaurant to Scott’s and Le Caprice, to offer an insight into his fashion secrets through a hand-drawn map.
Famous the world over for his stunning illustrations of women in fashion, Downton will be creating a limited edition piece of art, which will be gifted to 34 diners. His bespoke map of Mayfair will highlight some of his favorite haunts including Claridge’s, Christian Louboutin, Dover Street Market and Ladurée, along with hidden gems such as the Fashion Illustration Gallery, G Heywood Hill Ltd for antiquarian books and Grays Antique Market & Grays in the Mews.
The limited edition fashion map also includes an original David Downton portrait, commissioned especially for 34, giving diners their very own ‘David Downton lady’, for which the illustrator is most famous.
David Downton said: “Since becoming Fashion Artist in Residence at Claridge’s two years ago, I have become a little bit obsessed with Mayfair. Alongside the discreet embassies and chic shops, the grand hotels and kill-for-a- reservation restaurants, Mayfair is blessed with hidden squares, architectural curiosities and world-class galleries. From the silent 6am Mayfair to the after midnight Mayfair of the die-hard carouser, this part of London is a state of mind as much as a geographical location.".
To own a copy of the limited edition David Downton fashion map and illustration, ladies need to book lunch at 34 restaurant from November to December.
