Get ready for Twickenham Festival 2014

If the newly redeveloped riverside walk, the charming village green, the numerous al fresco dining opportunities, the cornucopia of great pubs, a brand new theatre and the assortment of green spaces containing attractive historical buildings wasn’t enough to tempt you to this leafy suburb then something in the Twickenham Festival (6th to 22nd June) is bound to provide the incentive.

There is surely something for everyone whether it’s the Best of Richmond Expo at Twickenham Stadium this Friday or the tug of war at the newly refurbished Eel Pie pub in the evening. On Saturday 7th June there’s the St Mary’s Summer Fair and Church Street Craft Market.

On Saturday 7th there are Morris dancers at the Farmer’s Market on Holly Road. And you could combine this with a visit to the Twickenham and Thames Valley Beekeepers’ Association Open Day or participation in a riverside or poetry walk. The Pope’s Grotto and Turner’s House are also open for visits and the Hampton and Ember Choral Societies have a concert at St Mary’s University college in the evening. Wow – that’ll be a busy day.

On Sunday the Turk’s Head pub hosts a 10k run (as well as a charity dance night on Friday 13th June), and for the sporty folk there are treasure hunt bikes rides for adults and families and an open day at the Twickenham Yacht Club.
There are fairs for Crown Road Community and Trafalgar School (Sunday 8th June), Special Farmers Market Plant Day (part of the “Church Street goes Green” garden event), Midsummer Craft Fair and St Mary’s School Fair (all three on Saturday 14th June).

On Sunday 15th June you can’t miss the Carnival and the Riverbank Beer Festival and the Chili Off (at The Albany pub). On 22nd June there’s the Borough’s Best Banger competition – helpfully alongside a great café with fabulous river views and children’s play area in Jubilee Gardens.

Other events include: Strawberry Hill House garden talk, a number of jazz and big band events at The Bloomsbury and photographic exhibitions. There’s even a session to prepare you for your Italian holiday. The famous Dragon Boat Races take place on Saturday 21st June.

And throughout the Festival there are Twickfolk and blues concerts at The Cabbage Patch pub and boat cruises on the Thames – one with a photography theme.
