LA music sensation Kina Grannis comes to London

She's reached over 130 million views on YouTube and is huge on the Los Angeles indie scene - but what does US singer and musician Kina Grannis love about London?

Let's find out...

Kina, you've featured on huge US TV shows like The Ellen Show - how did you cope with that sudden catapult into fame?
It was surreal and exciting. It helped that I was immensely busy and didn't have too much time to think about what was happening - I had no choice but to just enjoy it and keep moving.

Then you made a massively brave decision to not take a record contract because it wasn't for you. Why did you make that decision?
It came down to not wanting to give up my creative integrity and control. The decision was made a lot easier by the fact that I had stumbled upon the power of the internet through YouTube and had seen first-hand that there were people all over the world who wanted to support me for exactly who I was and the music I wanted to be making.

Instead, you made a video out of jelly beans? Why?
My friend Greg Jardin (who directed the video) came up with the idea after I had told him I wanted to make a music video that was really creative and unique. I immediately loved the idea (although to be honest, I had my doubts as to whether or not we could pull it off)!

And now, you're in London and have recently played the Tabernacle? What does that mean to you?
That the internet is amazing and there are a lot of lovely humans here that have helped me to do what I love every day! I love this city and it's so wonderful to play here.

Do you get a different reaction over here? Are the fans crazier or more calm?
The crowds in the UK and Europe have been amazing! I've been floored by their warmth and energy. They are crazy, loud, attentive, silly, and sing along to EVERYTHING. I love them :)

Where have you visited so far in London?
I went on a couple runs through Hyde Park and Regent's Park. I'm pretty much obsessed with them and I'm so sad places like this don't exist back home in Los Angeles!

What are your favourite places to hang out?
Parks! Go figure.
