The Oscars Best-Dressed

Love London

Last night's Oscars red carpet was a sight to behold, with frou frou frocks and glitzy, glamorous gowns, slinky sequins and dazzling diamonds everywhere you looked - the Academy Awards fash fest is undoubtedly every fashion lover's dream. Every year I watch the red carpet action on E! with wide eyed wonder, secretly hoping that one day I might be invited to some kind of black tie do so I can indulge in such a dreamy princess dress.

While there were undoubtedly a number of misses - the less said about Solange the better - the good far outweighed the bad last night. A whiter shade of pale was clearly the order of the night, with a host of leading ladies setting a trend for crisp, clean white and ivory. Julianne Moore, the big winner of the night after she walked away with the Best Actress gong, wowed in custom Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld, and when the Kaiser himself makes your gown no accessory is needed apart from a dazzling grin. Lupita N'yongo's pearl-encrusted Calvin Klein looked straight out of a 20s speakeasy, and Anna Faris looked absolutely stunning in custom made Zuhair Murad; such a pale shade could have been hit or miss on a blonde but it suited her perfectly.

At the other end of the spectrum, Sienna Miller looked incredible in Oscar de la Renta straight off the AW15 catwalk. With slicked back hair and a feline eye she brought a classic London rock n roll edge to the glitz and glamour of LA. Major kudos go to the new Mrs Redmayne, Hannah Bagshawe. She's consistently proved her style credentials this awards season with an array of fantastic frocks and last night's Alexander McQueen was no exception; she's mastered the perfect balance of nailing a striking gown without taking the attention from her superstar spouse.

My winners from the night? Jennifer Lopez and Emma Stone in Elie Saab couture. J.Lo's dress can be described as nothing short of dreamy. It's the kind of dress you imagine as a child, dreaming of princesses and sugar plum fairies. Layer upon layer of millefeuille silk tulle, encrusted with pearls, sequins and crystals, in a shade that couldn't compliment her skintone more perfectly if it tried. And as for Emma? Bravo for breaking the mould; backless chartreuse sequins split to the thigh could have been a disaster, but with Stone's porcelain complexion, fiery hair and coral lip she looked phenomenal. Congratulations ladies, you rocked my red carpet world.
