There's a rather exciting new hotel launching in London next month and the first such luxury establishment to open its doors in Tech City...
With striking architecture from RIBA award-winning architects, a 17th floor restaurant with views across London, dining by chefs from Michelin-starred kitchens and a luxurious spa, one could be forgiven for thinking the new M by Montcalm might be more at home in the City, rubbing shoulders with the Heron Tower, or in the glamorous surroundings of the West End. Alas, London's latest is situated on City Road, a mere three-minute walk from Silicon roundabout - fast becoming the major hub for media technology firms.
The 18 storey building's futuristic façade was heavily influenced by the work of ‘Op-Art’ pioneer Bridget Riley, particularly 'Nataraja' (1993), now part of the Tate Collection. The 269 rooms of four categories, including suites, are resplendent with luxury amenities from Elemis and Hermès, rain showers, Bose speakers and easy-to-use technology that enables guests to create their own environment; they can even select the room aroma. Sounds like a little slice of heaven.
Of course what I'm most interested in is the Spa, and from what I've read thus far the [i]M Spa[/]i certainly won't disappoint. The perfect place to sneak away to escape the constant buzz of Shoreditch, the M Spa will offer a range of therapies, a beautiful Versace tiled swimming pool with steam room, sauna and jacuzzi, and a gym equipped with the latest in technology and renowned beauty brands. Watch this space for a review; wild horses couldn't keep me away from a visit to this one.
With advanced technology throughout the hotel the M by Montcalm more than lives up to its home domain of Tech City; features will include tablets to easily control the lights, sound, temperature and order room service.
And as for the food? Two exciting restaurants will be launched within the property, both with renowned chefs from Michelin-starred kitchens but with very different offerings. The first, spread across the ground and mezzanine floors will have a relaxed atmosphere for locals and guests to socialise and a huge bar serving world-class cocktails. The second offers a refined dining experience on the 17th floor.
A recognition that luxury hospitality, and luxury in itself, is ever-changing in this increasingly tech-driven world, the M by Montcalm is an authentic environment inspired by its location and I for one can't wait to pay it a visit.
