Date for the Diary: Afternoon Tea Fit For A Queen

Love London

As if The Berkeley hotel's Prêt-à-Portea wasn't fabulous enough already for featuring the cream of the collections every season, this spring it gets a royal seal of approval with an afternoon tea fit for a Queen.

In celebration of HRM Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday on April 21st, Prêt-à-Portea – The Royal Collection will be available at the Knightsbridge establishment from 18th to 24th April 2016. Biscuits, fancies and choux buns will be transformed to resemble the most memorable hats worn by the Queen and the Royal Family to commemorate 90 years of the Queen’s life.

The Monarch is believed to have worn more than 5000 hats since she was crowned in 1953 and ‘Prêt-à-Portea – The Royal Collection’ includes the most famous headpiece of all; Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation crown, worn for her coronation in 1953, recreated as a vanilla biscuit with intricate icing and edible diamonds. With other delectable treats including a cake version of the Queen's iconic Launer London handbag and a praline profiterole inspired by the much-talked-about Philip Treacy fascinator worn by Princess Beatrice at the Royal Wedding of the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge. Almost too stylish to eat, aren't they? Nevertheless, I'm going to. Three cheers for Lizzie - Hip Hip!

Prêt-à-Portea is served at The Berkeley from 1:45pm – 5:30pm Monday-Friday and 1:00pm - 5:30pm Friday - Sunday priced at £45 per person (£52 including a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne or £58 per person including a glass of couture champagne).
