For The Frill Of It

Love London

In case you missed the memo, flounces and frills and ruffles and romance are back, big time, for spring. Catwalks were awash with delicate botanical prints, layers of girly chiffon, flouncy collars, ribbon trims and pieces that wouldn't be out of place on Scarlett O'Hara at a Twelve Oaks picnic.

If the full-on frill look isn't quite your bag, luckily the high street has translated it into a much more wearable aesthetic, with a host of beautiful blouses that will be perfect teamed with jeans and a loafer. Here are my pick of the bunch...

River Island's white printed ruffle wrap blouse (£35, also available in lilac and orange) is the stuff dreams are made of. While a little part of me wishes it was attached to a crinoline (see aforementioned Scarlett comment...) I know that this is going to become a wardrobe favourite. So unashamedly girly! www.riverisland.com

It seems to have been everywhere recently, but Marks & Spencer has hit the sartorial nail on the head with its crisp, blue cotton, frill collar Limited Edition shirt (£29.50, www.marksandspencer.com). Just enough of a nod to the trend to send fashion editors wild with desire. Bravo.

Finally, kudos to New Look for their ever-so-slightly-Chanel-esque take. Monochrome with a skinny black ribbon at the neck; simple, fresh, minimal. Karl would be proud. £24 at www.newlook.com
