Rewritten - Made for Maids

Love London

This weekend saw a little visit to the rather fabulous Brides the Show, a total hotbed of ideas for any bride to be or, in my case, bridesmaid. The dress market is undoubtedly saturated with shiny satin, crispy taffeta and a whole rainbow on insipid candy hues; I've never quite understood those brides who put their maids in some hideous creation that makes them look and feel atrocious. The first time I was a bridesmaid I had to wear chocolate brown satin, faux fur and gold lurex. I kid you not. We haven't spoken since the wedding. I'm pleased to report that now we're in our 30s, the two friends I'm bridesmaid for in the next six months have far better taste in dresses...

My undisputed gem of the show was discovering the beautiful gowns from Rewritten. Freshly launched on Friday, this brand is doing things differently. Founded by two former fashion industry friends who decided enough was enough when they couldn't find anything decent for their bridesmaids to wear. The collection comprises six styles, in a current palette of four colours; a beautiful bluebell, chianti red, peachy and - my favourite - concrete, a subtle, almost dusky pink-hued grey.

All made of a beautifully luxuriant heavy double crepe these frocks are, quite simply, the ones to beat. Classic cuts, unfussy styles, gorgeous fluidity and oh so wearable, I'm seriously considering purchasing a couple for my work wardrobe. There are currently two styles of top (a halter and a bardot) to mix and match with a long skirt and three dresses, the Tokyo and Florence (pictured) long and short wrap dresses and the sleeveless, racerback Vienna. These are bridesmaids dresses for people who hate bridesmaids dresses. I'm sold.
