London Fashion Week is in full swing and while mere mortals may not be able to join fashion's elite on the FROW, one can get a bite of the action (sorry...) with the Hilton Park Lane's very fashionable afternoon tea.
Available at the Podium restaurant until Sunday 24th, the Confessions of a Fashionista Afternoon Tea features a delectable array of treats created in collaboration with elegant British womenswear label Madderson London and luxury London shoe brand, Lucy Choi.
I managed to fit in a little visit on a buzzing Sunday afternoon, oohing and aahing on my way through the light-flooded dining room to my table at the sight of what was to come my way.
A plate of delicious delicate open sandwiches kicked of proceedings, with options including smoked salmon and horseradish cream, coronation chicken with curry and pineapple and a chunky ham with tomato chutney, mustard and cress. Despite their diminutive size they were just right judging by the amount of sweets on the way...
The centrepiece of the tea is the grand stand of desserts that followed. Fresh, warm scones - plain, fruit and chocolate chip - were accompanied by dishes of rich yet light chocolate praline spread (I defy you not to eat it by the spoonful...), clotted cream and strawberry jam. Each of the miniature fancies was a treat on the tastebuds, with a fresh and fruity trio of a blackcurrant parfait, strawberry & citrus mousse and raspberry chocolate finished in gold leaf. the 'Jagger' truffle clutch bag was brownie-esque in taste and texture, while a dark chocolate 'Corinthia' shoe was modelled on a Lucy Choi design. The final piece of the 'Naomi' dress, a citrussy shortbread with sugar paste decoration, based on a Madderson London design worn by the Duchess of Cambridge.
I shall confess, eyes bigger than my belly and a second round of sandwiches meant one or two of the sweets may have gone home with me in a doggy bag, though that's not necessarily a bad thing as I indulged in them later that day. Clearly it's the gift that keeps on giving...
