RUN AWAY FOR A NIGHT AT THE CIRCUS...

Love London

If your planned nights out post-lockdown need a bit of spicing up, Covent Garden's Circus bar and restaurant will rise to the challenge.

The cabaret cocktail bar and restaurant offers a Pan-Asian menu and a host of spectacular cocktails, accompanied by en evening of dazzling entertainment courtesy of aerialists, contortionists, hand balancers, fire-breathers, hula-hoopers and more.

We popped down for dinner a few weeks back to see for ourselves. A Thursday night crowd of dates, work drinks and a table next to us who could only be entertaining clients trickled in, before we sampled a couple of their delicious cocktails; the Naked & Famous with Mezcal, Aperol andChartreuse and the Charlie Chaplin with Sloe Gin, Apricot and Lime.

Dishes on the Tasting Menu included starters of edamame, prawn crackers and nori with sweet chilli sauce, a selection of dim sum and smoked salt and pepper chilli squid. Mains included a delicious sweet Miso Salmon with charred lime and pickled cucumber, a Yellow Curry with sunflower seed, chicken, cherry tomato, long aubergine and sweet basil and sides of truffled green beans and jasmine rice. Both were tasty, though perhaps a little on the small side for a £65 a head evening. Dessert was an incredibly rich chilled chocolate fondant with raspberry gelato; packing a powerful chocolate punch it was the one dish that perhaps could have been shared!

In between courses the audience was treated to the pop-up circus, with some eye-popping acrobatics, aerial activity, hula hooping and fire breathing... I won't spoil the surprise completely, but suffice to say I've never seen a woman with her chest on fire before.

For an evening of entertainment that's a little something different Circus certainly ticks the box. Next time thought we might stick with the cocktails.
