GET AWAY TO THE GANTRY

Love London

There’s something rather indulgent about a London staycation, don’t you think? Sometimes it’s just a little bit needed to check in for a night away from home - particularly when we’ve all been spending quite so much time at home in the last two years - and Stratford’s latest addition is one well worth having on your radar next time you fancy getting away from it all.

The Gantry, the newest opening in the Curio Collection by Hilton, opened its doors in November. The design-led hotel, overlooking Stratford International station and Westfield, features 291 rooms and a buzzing food and drink scene to boot.

The lobby is very much interiors goals, with mid-century modern teak furniture, cosy armchairs and plants galore. I defy you not to snap every angle for your future home mood board (I certainly did). Up in the rooms, views extend back across Stratford and out towards Canary Wharf, quite spectacular though annoyingly cut up by the building’s stylish steel exoskeleton.

Rooms are a blend of the elegant and industrial, with nods to the area’s railway heritage in the artwork and decor. The chic bathroom featured one epic walk in shower, with tantalising herbal toiletries from brand Grown Alchemist, full size in a bid to eliminate waste. Elegant and tasteful without being too over the top, it's just the right blend of business and style.

The food offering at The Gantry helps it stand out. Soon to open is an artisanal food market from The Stratford Grocer & Co. with integrated café on the ground floor, a dedicated sparkling bar, an all-day restaurant. The hotel’s first floor is dedicated to Union Social, the main dining venue, offering a relaxed all day menu with a global edge. Sicilian Executive Chef Salvatore Coco brings his global travels to his menu, with dishes from Genovese focaccia and tarragon risotto to sesame glazed sea trout with white miso tamarind. We tucked into to fantastic Hampshire beef cheek with red wine jus and pressed lyonnaise potatoes and a deeply indulgent sticky toffees pudding, but with a whole host of International flavours on the menu we’re looking forward to going back for me.

Its drinks have been created by award-winning London mixologist Walter Pintus, while on the same floor you’ll find the resident Sparkling Bar, Coupe, resplendent with its illuminated counter, velvet bar stools, banquette seating and outdoor terrace. There’s also an 18th floor bar with views across the city opening in the spring; this is a location made for socialising and al fresco summer parties with a planned line up of live music and DJs seeing us into the summer months.

Be it a pit-stop after a hard day’s shopping or a well deserved getaway for a night away from home, The Gantry is worth having on your radar. Its proximity to the station makes it an ideal solution for midweek commuters heading into Stratford International, while its buzzy bars are certainly something to get excited about this summer.
