MAMA SHELTER REVEALS ITS LINE UP FOR THE LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL

Love London

Shoreditch's Mama Shelter has announced a fabulous addition to its events schedule in celebration of the EFG London Jazz Festival, kicking off next Friday 11th and running through to 20th November.

No stranger to live music having hosted gigs over the last few years since its launch, Mama Shelter will be hosting Sunday Sessions on 13th and 20th November (opening and closing of the festival), where independent artists on the music scene with elements of Jazz, will be featured.

Sunday 13th November sees Ash Walker headlining the opening Sunday Session. Following his debut in 2015, this muti-instrumentalist and DJ has released three albums with sounds ranging from Jazz, Blues, Soul, Funk and Reggae. Walker is no stranger to iconic jazz venues, having played at the esteemed Jazz Café, as well as some of the UK’s biggest festivals.

Ash is joined by Ruby Francis and Josh Barry. Josh was a semi-finalist of Britain’s Got Talent at the age of 16, and his love for music has continued. His influences include James Brown, Otis Redding and Jimi Hendrix. He is known for his emotive vocal style which is as haunting against a backdrop of music, as well as acapella. He has won the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Contest and has toured as support to Rag N Bone Man. Ruby is a self-taught musician, with inspiration taken from Erykah Badu to Bjork. Her self-produced albums have been highly praised by BBC Radio 1xtra and over 20,000 monthly Spotify listeners is a testament to her musical style.

Closing the Sunday Sessions on 20th November is ZEBEDE whose hyper-aesthetic sound is a fusion of future soul, jazz and funky roots. ZEBEDE have played many live performances including the Barclaycard stage at Hyde Park’s British Summertime Festival, the Ford Amplified Sessions and at the Abbey Road Studios, as well as Sofar Sounds. Leah Cleaver (vocalist) will be performing with Charlie Dauber (Guitarist).

Joining ZEBEDE is Nic Hanson who is a producer, singer and linguist, spending his time between London and NYC. Originally from Philadelphia, his sounds have clocked up over 60,000 monthly listeners and 50,000 followers. With a passion for writing original material, he is all about the feel- good Nu-Funk with a sprinkling of jazz. Nic is no stranger to Mama Hotel London Shoreditch, having hosted a series of summer gigs with them this year.

Both nights will end with DJ Chris, a regular at Mama Shelter London, having been on the DJ roster since 2020. As part of the duo, Disco Freaks, his style covers funk, soul and jazz. Signed to Acid Jazz Records and with a show hosted on East London’s, Hoxton Radio, Chris and his partner have toured with Roy Ayres and brought funk to festivals like Glastonbury and Bestival.

Tickets to each Sunday Session are priced at £15pp and available from www.mamashelter.com/london-shoreditch
