A NIGHT AT THE ATHENAEUM - THE PRIDE OF PICCADILLY

Love London

There are plenty of hotels stretched along the length of Piccadilly, but having recently spent a night at The Athenaeum, we've found our favourite.

Embodying five-star luxury with an independent spirit, the award-winning, family-run hotel opposite Green Park is home to luxurious rooms, suites and residences that champion bespoke British craftsmanship with a nod to its Art Deco roots. You won't fail to notice it thanks to its striking Living Wall, a garden that stretches from the street all the way to the 10th floor up the front of the building - it certainly makes the hotel stand out among its neighbours.

Inside the elegant lobby is home to the the bar and testaurant, 116 at The Athenaeum, where we enjoyed a rather lovely supper. Executive Head Chef, Ian Howard worked as Head Chef at Borough Market’s renowned Roast Restaurant and as Executive Head Chef at both Babylon Restaurant and The Roof Gardens High Street Kensington before joining The Athenaeum, and the menu features creative twists on seasonal British classics with fresh, local ingredients. We tucked in to the cured Loch Duart salmon with gin gel, tarragon, cucumber and potato salad and a lovely carbonara, though stupidly didn't leave room for dessert.

Upstairs, rooms are bright and spacious, with luxurious interiors and many featuring views over the park, even with a cosy bay window to curl up in and enjoy the views. The best part though is the Hypnos mattress; get ready for a seriously good night's sleep. There's also a pillow menu to ensure your perfect slumber, bathrobes and slippers and beautiful marble bathrooms - a stay here is a real treat. Guests also have access to the spa, with hot tub, revitalising treatment options and a 24 hour gym.

There are some great offers available on the website, like 15% off if you book 14 days in advance, or 20% off if you book for three nights or more. Check out the website for more details.

There might be some bigger, shinier, flashier hotels taking up Piccadilly pavement space, but with its subtl luxury, cosy vibes and great food, we've found a new favourite in The Athenaeum.
