A ROOM WITH A VIEW AT HYATT PLACE CITY EAST

Love London

On the busy stretch of Whitechapel High Street you’ll find Hyatt Place London City East, a hotel with dazzling views across the city, a buzzing bar and easy access to the best of east London.

The hotel is mere moments from Aldgate East tube and over 100 of its 280 rooms come complete with a view of The Gherkin, Canary Wharf and the city, while thirteen of the bedrooms across the top two floors are accessorised with a private outdoor terrace or balcony. It’s a stylish base from which to explore and each of its rooms feature a dedicated workspace, smart TV, Wi-Fi and contemporary furniture, and of course a superbly comfortable bed.

The hotel is under the watchful eye of General Manager Michael Mason-Shaw and as an Arts Graduate, he’s had a hand in bringing a wealth of art to its walls for guests to enjoy. He launched ‘Curated at Hyatt Place’ as a rotating art exhibition at the hotel and a bursary to give the art-loving London public new alternate art spaces to enjoy, whilst offering a spotlight to local upcoming and emerging talents. 25% of all sales go into an art bursary that is used to support and fund work from new London artists. The hotel is filled with a series of street art commissions from London-based street artists, one-off art pieces and local photography, creating a totally unique space.

The hotel has an impressive list of sustainability credentials and certifications, from its low-carbon building with advanced filtration systems, smart energy and water usage policies, to the ninth floor birdboxes to support biodiversity and the flowers and meadow grasses that adorn flat roof buildings, the ninth-floor rooftop terrace, and the restaurant’s al-fresco dining terrace, providing essential respite for pollinators like butterflies and bees in the midst of East London.

In the basement guests will find Zoom East, a restaurants that brings the flavours of Sicily to East London thanks to Catania-born chef Vittorio Meli. With a breakfast buffet spread and a delicious menu in the evening; we heartily recommend the beef shin mafalde. Upstairs, PocketSquare London Skyline Bar & Terrace serves up a creative cocktail list and light bites; the gin-led bar describes itself as ‘where the City meets the East,’ with drinks inspired by the city’s diverse history and cultures, incorporating a local East London twist. Recipes are conceited at its own cocktail laboratory, where extensive experimenting has led to intriguing and new flavour profiles not found anywhere else in London, as well as allowing the team to utilise all parts of ingredients where possible in order to create new variations, such as transforming pineapple leaves into bitters. The terrace boasts THE view, while monthly live music nights, curated and hosted by musician and producer Tony Moore, showcase a mix of rising stars and established musicians.

A stone’s throw from Brick Lane, Spitalfields Market and the buzz of Shoreditch, Hyatt Place City East is the perfect spot to make the most of east London. We loved the bar, with its seriously inventive cocktail creations, and the view - yes yes, we know we keep banging on about it - is not to be underestimated. Hell, we even slept with the curtains open in the end to make the most of that skyline.
