CHECKING IN: EMBRACE EAST LONDON'S ART SCENE AT ART'OTEL HOXTON

Love London

A seemingly imposing cylindrical building looking down on Old Street, I must have walked past art’otel Hoxton a dozen times before actually notcicing it, or realising it was a hotel. As the name suggests, this place is a shrine to art, with guests immersed it in from the moment they walk in thanks to digital screens embracing the escalator lobby and more than one original Banksy on the walls outside.

In collaboration with Eyal Shoan of award-winning interior design studio Digital Space, this stylish yet playful hotel has been given a bold aesthetic by Signature Artist D*Face, whose subversive works fill the walls and halls, along with exciting pieces from up-and-coming artists in the dedicated art gallery. Pick up an art guide from reception to navigate your way around the collection.

Downstairs you'll will find the frankly excellent Brush Grand Café. With a menu of nibbles, flatbreads, and mains - including from their Josper grill - it’s a buzzing space, with high ceilings, real east London vibes and excellent food. The beef tartare was sublime, and the crisp Wiener Schnitzel, with cucumber and dill salad and parsley potatoes was a real hit, not to mention they serve an excellent Martini. They serve an excellent breakfast as well - even if not staying, it's a brilliant spot for a morning meeting.

The hotel’s spa is home to a subterranean swimming pool, sauna and steam room along with a menu of treatments including massages, facials and wellness experiences such as the Movement experience, with a 1-hour Stretch & Align Massage to release tension and enhance flexibility, followed by Pressotherapy for muscle recovery and rejuvenation. It’s a world away from the bustle of the city above.

Our One Bed Suite came with a dazzling view of the city skyline, so much so we almost slept with the curtains open. With 55 square meters of space, a king bed, and work desk in the spacious lounge, it’s a stunning space with plenty of room. Luxurious additions make it a real home from home; from the record player and stack of vinyls including Amy Winehouse and Taylor Swift, to the illy Express Machine, Dyson hairdryer and AirWrap and cocktail tray laid out with glasses, shaker and recipes ready for aperitivo hour, it’s seriously stylish. After our spa session and delicious dinner, we swiftly retired to the room to lounge in a robe with a cocktail whilst spinning some vinyl and watching the lights twinkling over the city.

The location of art’otel Hoxton couldn’t be more perfect; right at the top of Great Eastern Street, within sight of Old Street Station and walkable from Liverpool Street, it’s the perfect place for a break in the centre of the city.
