A slick new salon is making its mark on Shoreditch and proving that you don't need the shiny streets of Chelsea for hot hair this summer.
CULt Hairdressing was founded by Aussie-born Brett MacDonald; with over 25 years of experience, whose vision was to bring the premium, luxurious salon experience usually associated with west London to the east end. The new salon - housed in the former Old Fruit and Wool Exchange just opposite Spitalfield’s Market - is a huge, bright, airy space; there's none of the cramped, hot, noisy experience so often associated with a townhouse space. It's a sophisticated, contemporary space, relaxed and welcoming yet sleek and contemporary.
Brett noticed a trend in recent years of women working in the city being unable to find the right salon experience; though trendy Shoreditch might be a hotbed of spots for a trendy cut or striking colour job, the lack of the luxury salon experience was driving potential clients back west for the hair appointments. The opening of CULt is set to change all that.
We visited a few weeks ago, on a sunny Saturday morning for a colour change, a chop and a chinwag. From the crisp, fresh, summery blonde balayage at the expert hands of Brigita Latiseviciute and 'the haircut that doesn't look like a haircut' with Brett (who expertly trimmed the split ends and tidied the grown own layers so expertly I couldn't even tell it had been cut), to a good old natter putting the world to rights on the sofa with colourist Sam while my colour set, it was a treat of a morning. Walking out with a sleek new look and a fresh take on the Shoreditch salon experience, it's definitely a hot hair spot we'll be returning to.
