THE HEATHROW HOTEL EARLY FLIGHT SAVIOUR

Love London

If you're anything like us, you're the sort who books an early morning to make the most of your destination. But what if it's so early that public transport is at best a nightmare and at worst non-existent? It's times like this that a Heathrow hotel will save the day, and with Hyatt Place London Heathrow just a few minutes away from Terminal 5, it's an effortless choice.

Arriving from one flight Friday evening ahead of another departure Saturday morning (it's a tough life...) meant little point in going home for a few hours sleep before turning around and heading back, so we jumped at the chance to try out a night at Hyatt Place. There's on-sit parking, though if coming without your own wheels it's no more than 5-10 minutes in a cab, or alternatively there's a brilliant bus service looping around the various airport hotels that will drop you right at the door.

Check in was flawless, and within minutes this tired soul was on the way upstairs. Rooms are simple; bed, a couple of cupboards, TV, a desk cleverly slotted into a corner space or my slightly awkward shaped room. Nothing spectacular, but given most guests would likely be staying a night, who needs anything more? Bottled water was thoughtfully provided, and the pillows were wonderfully plump and inviting (more than I can say for some places I've frequented...). What's more, there was a bathtub - certainly appreciated after a 10 hour flight.

There's a restaurant downstairs with a good selection for all-day dining, however tiredness restrained a visit. It has to be said however that the room service menu is disappointingly small, with really just a handful of dishes. Why it's not possible to have the same pasta or burger on the restaurant menu delivered to your room is a mystery; alas, going to bed hungry had to suffice. Breakfast however is a typically hearty affair, with both continental and cooked options available from the buffet, included in the room rate. Much needed with such an early start.

All in all the Hyatt Place London Heathrow is a great option if you want something close and convenient without a luxury price tag. What's more, the hotel has recently relaunched its Blue Sky Suite, a spectacular top-floor event space that offers panoramic views of planes taking off, landing, and taxiing across Heathrow’s runways. Located on the 6th floor, it's a handy location for larger gatherings. The Blue Sky Suite is designed for up to 40 guests, with flexible layouts to suit everything from executive briefings and training sessions to intimate weddings, anniversary dinners and private dining experiences.

Rooms from £100 per night.
