Empire Cinema

Walthamstow has been crying out for a cinema for many years, and now finally it has its very own nine-screen multiplex. The area’s affordable properties and fantastic high street (not to mention its very own village) have made it extremely popular with young families, so it’s surprising that for over a decade it was cinema-less, after the closure of the historical EMG/Granada building in 2003. As it’ part of the Empire chain it doesn’t have quite the same cache as the 19th century theatre and music hall which hosted bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, but at least it means locals no longer need to travel out to Enfield to get their movie fix.The Empire is part of a new development called ‘The Scene’ that includes flats, shops and restaurants.
