For those with an interest in ancient Egypt this museum is a must (for the name doesn’t have anything to do with petri dishes), as some of the items on display here date back as far as 5000 BC. They range from mundane household objects like linen to sculptures from temples, as well as the oldest will on papyrus paper and a very large collection of jewellery and weapons. As well as providing a good understanding of Egypt BC, exhibits paint a picture of life during the Ptolemaic, Roman and Islamic periods. With over 800,000 objects, this is one of the biggest collections of Egyptian archaeology in the world. Part of UCL, the museum is open Tuesday to Saturday, and admission is free.
