I met up with a few mates and they took me down to The Wittness Box last Friday. Was a bit skeptical at first (it is tucked away round the back of Fleet st). However, once you get downstairs the basement bar is like some twisted speakeasy. There was a guy on the piano in the corner, a chap playing a drum and a blonde girl singer with a ukulele. They have mad names, Nick Of Time and Kitty La Roar! The guy on drums has a normal name Stu Ritchie, but then he gets out this electric ukulele! Have to say they were bloody good though and easy on the eye ; ). Well... it kept us there till the wee small hours. Good old fashioned boozer, full of legal bods drinking after work and then after 9 it turns into full blown speakeasy... Very cool. Def be back.

Gary and Lee are just the best. The breakfasts are amazing, toasted bacon sandwich second to none, and Christmas Lunch is better than anybody else's. I would recommend to anybody.

Been told this was a great place for breakfast . Better than great , amazing is the word . Food cooked to perfection, toast larger than anywhere else and the staff especially the landlady are friendly but still professional . Eaten in some very nice places London but this one of the best . Wii return for lunch soon and a pint . Paul W

My wife and I were staying in London and were on our way to the Tower of London, when we decided to divert from Fleet Street down towards the river. En route, we noticed the Witness Box at the end of Tudor Street and thought we could get a cuppa there. We found the place very welcoming as were the staff. We were asked if we wanted breakfast, but we'd eaten and it was a bit early for a pint, so we asked if we could have a cup of tea. We were given a good range of teas available and made our choices. The staff were very friendly and warm, one of whom brought us a large tin of biscuits to dip into while we had our tea. We had intended to call in for a drink and a meal on the way back to our hotel, but as we had to freshen up before going to the theatre we didn't have time. It's certainly one place that's on our "Must Do" list the next time we go to London - probably before Christmas. It's off the beaten track, but well worth the time spent finding it.

Myself and a friend had lunch at the Witness Box yesterday and it was absolutely delicious. This is one of my favourite luncheon places in the EC4 area. Well cooked food, well presented and the staff are so friendly

My wife, daughter and I were visiting from Russia and we had a great lunch and had the best home-made pie.

Staff were very helpful with local knowledge and made our visit memorable.

Highly reccomended and at a good price too. We shall come again.

I discovered the witness box this morning, and think I may have found the best breakfast bar of all time.

A warm friendly bar, on the outskirts of the Temple, its ambience belieing the grim sixties block that houses it.

A sandwich of perfect bacon made with fresh cut doorsteps of crusty white bread, a huge mug of tea, a table to myself for an hour with the paper - and all for £3.

My only negative would be the overload poppy music, but it's not overwhelming.

I think I'll be a regular from now on!

Breakfast at The Witness Box: Amazing value, amazing quality, amazing quantity. Not greasy, and just the right temperature. Without any doubt, one of the best Breakfasts: Sets you up well for the day! Well done, Witness Box - keep up the standards and value!

Ignore the last message, clearly a sad old snob. The breakfast bar at the witness is great. Excellent food, served by friendly and attentive staff and great value too. The best breakfast in London!!!
At lunchtime the pub serves great, traditional English food with a comprehensive wine list to go with it. i recommend the witness box any time of day or night

The downstairs bar here is rather dingy and crowded and gets pretty bad if there is a football game on.

Now they have made the whole place much worse by adding tacky and misspelt fluorescent notices in the window offering a 'breakfast bar'.

Let's hope this one bites the dust!
