Destroyed in the Great Fire, this pub was rebuilt in the Victorian era, and its dimly lit wood panelled interior gives it an olde world atmosphere. It was named after Dr Butler who would fire a pistol to surprise the epilepsy out of unsuspecting patients. He created a medicinal ale which was only available from taverns displaying Dr Butler's head on their signs. This is the only surviving pub of its kind. Bar food is served and there is a restaurant upstairs.
